Welcome to Aaron Johnson
Paintings and Woodcuts

My lifelong love of Nature is the primary impetus for my work as an artist. My paintings and prints are a visual exploration of the world around us and of our human relationships within it.

The paintings are in two categories: Trees presents a series of tree portraits and Stories displays paintings that explore our human connections with nature. The Woodcuts page shows recent examples of my work as a printer. I use the traditional medium of oil on linen canvas for my paintings and bring over twenty years of letterpress printing experience to the production of my woodcut prints. Both techniques require patience, but encourage a slower, more contemplative way of looking than is common in our contemporary world.

Biographical information and my résumé may be found by clicking on About the Artist. Information about contacting me or purchasing work may be found on the Contact page.

News

During 2010 I will be a featured artist of the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County. A selection of my paintings and woodcuts will be on exhibit at their office on Chanticleer Ave from February 4th to April 30th, and at the Santa Cruz County Government Center on Ocean Street from October 25th to December 23rd. Offices open Monday through Friday.

Each October I participate in the "Open Studios Art Tour" sponsored by the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County, when 300 local artists open their studios to the public to show their work and methods. At other times you are welcome to send an e-mail or call (831)761-5848 to arrange a studio visit.

I look forward to seeing you.

Aaron
