Welcome to Aaron Johnson
Paintings and Woodcuts
My lifelong love of Nature is the primary impetus for my work as an artist. My paintings and prints are a visual exploration of the world around us and of our human relationships within it.
The paintings are in two categories: Trees presents a series of tree portraits and Stories displays paintings that explore our human connections with nature. The Woodcuts page shows recent examples of my work as a printer. I use the traditional medium of oil on linen canvas for my paintings and bring over twenty years of letterpress printing experience to the production of my woodcut prints. Both techniques require patience, but encourage a slower, more contemplative way of looking than is common in our contemporary world.
Biographical information and my résumé may be found by clicking on About the Artist. Information about contacting me or purchasing work may be found on the Contact page.
News
I was recently honored to be one of the nominees for the 2012-2013 Rydell Visual Arts Fellowship Program from the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County.
But, here at my new home on Chanticleer Ave in Live Oak, my focus is on a building project to expand the existing garage into a studio space. More tons of concrete are required for a foundation now than fifty years ago, but hopefully it will all be ready by October for the next "Open Studios Art Tour" sponsored by the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County.
If you would like to view my paintings and prints and see the future studio site, please email or call to arrange a visit.
I look forward to seeing you.
